U-20 World Cup Draw

March 3, 2007

Earlier I had mentioned that the U-20 2007 World Cup draw would be today, and so it has taken place and these are how the groups stand:

Group A
Canada (Host/CONCACAF)
Chile (CONMEBOL)
Congo (CAF)
Austria (UEFA)

Group B:
Spain (UEFA)
Uraguay (CONMEBOL)
Jordan (AFC)
Zambia (CAF)

Group C:
Portugal (UEFA)
New Zealand (OFC)
Gambia (CAF)
Mexico (CONCACAF)

Group D:
Poland (UEFA)
Brazil (CONMEBOL)
South Korea (AFC)
USA (CONCACAF)

Group E:
Argentina (CONMEBOL)
Czech Republic (UEFA)
Korea DPR (AFC)
Panama (CONCACAF)

Group F:
Japan (AFC)
Scotland (UEFA)
Nigeria (CAF)
Costa Rica (CONCACAF)

Just browsing through these brackets quickly, we can already assume who will advance.

Group A:
Chile
Congo

Group B:
Spain
Zambia

Group C:
Portugal
Mexico

Group D:
Brazil
South Korea

Group E:
Argentina
Czech Republic

Group F:
Nigeria
Scotland

The group of death is probably going to be Group D, with Brazil, Poland, South Korea, and the USA. I picked Brazil and South Korea to go through, but either Poland or the USA could probably sneak in. I am confident Brazil will advance, but the fight for the second spot will be a good one.
